On Line Group Study Topics for Jan - Mar of 2010
Listed below are the topics we will be studying in the first quarter of 2010. The on-line sessions will be on Wednesdays at 4:00pm and again at 8:00pm. You are welcome to attend at either time, or even come to both sessions. (limit of 25 people per session) Click the topic titles for more detailed information on a specific topic.
January 6 - "Bodies" possible for man: Almost all spiritual traditions, including Gurdjieff, speak of four vehicles or ‘bodies’ that man can develop. We will explore how these bodies are created, their functions and the worlds in which they operate.
January 13 - Centers in man: Man has three centers (or 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 depending on how you look at it). The function, development and connections between centers will be the topic for this week.
January 20 - Selfhood: Selfhood can be described as the organization of our ways and means of having experiences. How we organize ourselves, the energies involved and the possibilities for higher levels of organization is this weeks focus.
January 27 - Gurdjieff's Man #1 to #7: Gurdjieff’s scheme describing the levels of development open to man is our focus here.
February 3 - The law of threefoldness: Affirmation, Receptivity, Reconciliation. From computers to silverware the world is governed by this law. Once you begin to see it, you begin to see it everywhere.
February 10 - Triads (function/being/will): During this second week of looking at the law of three we will explore how the law of three creates all of the worlds and how the fundamental triad of function, being and will is applied to everything.
February 17 - The law of sevenfoldness: This law governs and provides the framework for all systems and hierarchies. It is the preeminent law of transformation. Understanding it is key to managing our own transformation.
February 24 - The Enneagram: This extraordinary symbol combines the law of three and the law of seven to reveal how processes unfold. It’s the basic map for ‘doing’.
March 3 - The 3 Worlds and Gurdjieff's 7 Worlds: This topic is a practical application of the laws of three and seven to reveal the cosmos in which we live.
March 10 - Bennett's 12 Levels of Energies: Much that is otherwise very confusing and difficult to understand, can be easily explained using Bennett’s extraordinary delineation of 12 levels or qualities of energies.
March 17 - Gurdjieff's Ray of Creation: Once again we visit the cosmos, but from a different prospective this time. Taking a top down approach we combine Gurdjieff’s teaching on the Ray of Creation with modern discoveries in astrophysics.
March 24 - Enneagram typing system: Although not explicitly taught by Gurdjieff, this typing system, based on the enneagram, goes far toward explaining how people of differing types process the world and derive their energies.
